The ARKAIA Institute for Mediterranean Archaeology brings together the material and human capacities of the archaeology laboratories of the Mediterranean centre for social sciences and humanities (MMSH) and the teams developing innovative approaches in biosciences, geosciences, biological anthropology, together with science and technology. It brings together 14 laboratories, namely around 350 staff from Aix-Marseille Université, the CNRS, the French Ministry of Culture and the National institute for preventive archaeological research. It also associates 4 faculties (the university’s training entities) and 2 doctoral schools, forming a community of around 100 master’s students and 45 PhD students enrolled in its disciplines.
