Our ambition: bringing disciplines closer together

The Institute for Mediterranean Archaeology brings together the material and human capacities of the archaeology laboratories of the Mediterranean centre for social sciences and humanities (MMSH) and the teams developing innovative approaches in biosciences, geosciences, biological anthropology, together with engineering sciences and techniques. In all, the institute brings together research teams within 14 laboratories and connects around 350 staff from Aix-Marseille Université, the CNRS, the French Ministry of Culture and the National institute for preventive archaeological research.

Thanks to the "Amorce" scheme, the institute has supported the structuring of a program focused on the Tipasa site. Our work, focusing on the geosciences, is now financed by the Fonds de solidarité pour les projets innovants, in partnership with the French Embassy, the Algerian Centre national de recherche en archéologie and the Centre universitaire de Tipaza.
