The Loron / Santa Marina program in Istria, northern Croatia, is centered on a large senatorial and imperial estate, known for hosting one of the largest oil amphora workshops in the northern Adriatic. It has been the subject of a Franco-Croatian mission since 1994, initially led by the Ausonius Center (University of Bordeaux - Michel de Montaigne), then from 2007/2012, by the École française de Rome and the Centre Camille Jullian. The current project, directed by C. Rousse in collaboration with D. Munda and G. Benčič of the Territorial Museum of Poreč (Zavičajni muzej Poreštine) focuses on the study of the villa associated with the workshop, the organization of the property, the management of natural resources on the scale of the estate and the environmental impacts of Roman settlement on this coastal area. In addition to the excavations and research carried out on this exceptional site, the mission also supports scientific exchanges and training for students and young researchers from French, Croatian, Slovenian and Italian universities.
