The R.I.P Data 2024 workshop will be held at the MMSH on October 1 and 2, 2024, in partnership with the Institut d'archéologie méditerranéenne.
Preserving research data over the short, medium and long term is a complex process, involving a wide range of economic, technological, environmental and heritage issues, as well as various legal obligations. It also requires the mobilization of numerous players to define a strategic policy for infrastructures, storage tools, scientific communities and institutional managers.
The aim of archiving, sharing and preserving data over the long and short term is, of course, to guarantee the availability of data, enable its reuse and ensure its preservation for future generations. But for scientific communities, it is above all a question that is as complex as it is crucial: which research data deserve to be preserved and shared, and for how long?
This seminar, organized by the DoReMITI (Données de REcherche de la Mission pour les Initiatives Transverses et Interdisciplinaires) working group, will alternate feedback, presentations and round-table discussions, inviting us to reflect on the selection, preservation and deletion of research data and, as suggested by its title "R.I.P Data", to consider with reason the ultimate fate of research data (may it rest in peace!).
These three half-days of exchange and discussion will enable us to take stock of the state of the art in Research data archiving practices in our laboratories, and to gauge the growing skills of our communities in this field.
